I am teaching a class in January 2011

at Angela's Happy Stamper. If you are wondering....it really is a happy place. The name of my class is "Penny Black instant cards" the idea is to create six card bases in class and later you can use them to create a card with all of the bells and whistles. Penny Black and SRM stickers has sponsored this class and you can sign up and see more the class details here.

Two whimsical cards

Hello Friends, How are you? Did you happen to notice that all week at the Penny Black blog we are showing cards with Christmas stamps but, using them for a card that's NOT for Christmas.

Today is my day at the PB blog and I made two cards to share.

I love this "snow globe" called "sending love". I could use this globe for every season. For months I have had this fish tank idea floating in my head and was so happy to finally put it on paper.

The random stitching was applied to the card base and I colored everything with copic makers. Glossy accents works beautifully on the bubbles and don't forget to add more white bubble dots. Here is a card by Elizabeth using this same stamp and one by Ashley here.

This next card was inspired by a sunset I saw the other day and made a mental note of the colors. I just had to add this adorable penguin for some whimsy to the card.
Blank Card
The tree and penguin are "Christmas" stamps and again very versatile. Emboss the tree on white paper before you start distressing. For the penguin I used more copic markers and a very fine marker to add the details to the scarf. (it's in the supply list)

How about a digi image .....

Hello Friends, How is your week going so far? Are you feeling overwhelmed or organzied? I am feeling a little bit of both. I will be knee deep in noodles and sauce soon. Every year I make a few large homemade lasagna's for our Christmas Eve dinner. Right now I am happy to be blogging and forget about all that has to be done.

Peace on Earth

I love this holiday image with it's fat candle and the festive holly. This image is from Tiffany Doodles that you will find here. I pared this card with a SRM sentiment for a perfect fit.

Peace on Earth

I stamped the every piece of paper with white or distress inks. Lots of glitter too with the help of a glue pen. The candle wick is a piece of twine that I lit for a realistic look. I love this new die too.
Have a great week.

Penny Black is featuring everyday cards created with a Christmas stamp on their blog this week.
Tis the season to be jolly :)...I hope you are feeling jolly.  Hugs,Kathy

P.S. I had a question about my last post with the bear. Yes, I did stamp the background with a rose stamp from Penny Black and outlined the rose with light colored copic markers to create the wall paper. Somehow I lost the email to get back to you....sorry :(

Are you feeling happy today?

Hello Friends, I have a happy card today to share with you. Isn't  this fat cat the cutest? I hope you have many things to smile about today :) .

I used Copic markers to color these cards and I am anxious to color a critter with some watercolor markers that I have on my list.

These are all from the Penny Black Valentine catalog. So versatile!

The fish bowl has a nice coating of Glossy Accents to give it a realistic feel.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend. My son comes home in two days from college...yay!
Hugs to you, Kathy

A tutorial with watercolor markers & three cards to share (two broken hearts)

Hello Friends.... how are you this Friday? Today I have a tutorial on the Penny Black blog with watercolor markers. I don't want to pretend that I am an expert with watercolor markers.... this is new territory for me and I am sure that you have may seen this technique around but, I did add a few of my favorite touches.

All of these images are part of the new Valentine collection at Penny Black and you can check them out here.

I love this heart. Scroll down for my "broken" heart cards.

I added lots of fine lines and dot's and I kept coming back when the paper was dry and adding a few touches of color. I love the vibrancy of these Tombo watercolor markers but, any ones will do.

Color the stamp with watercolor markers. Don't worry if the ink from the markers drys on the rubber.
Note: This particular stamp is a sample that's why it's on a acrylic block instead of a woodblock.

Mist your stamp several times. You might want to practice on a small stamp to test how much water to add to get a nice water colored "stamped" image.

You can fill in colors with a fine tip brush and a tiny bit of water. Make sure to clean your brush between colors. See below

Would you have thrown these away or would you continue to work with them? I am curios :)
The heart on the left is an example of not enough misting with the water.  I decided to see what the result would be to get a second stamped impression. I didn't think either one was good enough for a card but, I persevered and turned them into my broken heart cards.

This plastic lid is from the recycle bin and I like how it gave me a  large palette to work with. The white paper was taped to the bottom so the colors would show up.  Using your fine tip, damp paint brush, lift your color directly from the palette and apply to the image to touch up desired areas or to enhance the color.

You might notice that a fine tip black marker added some highlights to each image. Each heart has a different fine tip black marker. (the right is a Copic Multiliner 0.05 and the left is a Sharpie "fine" )

Two friends have had recently had deaths in their families hence the broken hearts. To create a broken heart start at the bottom and lightly draw a zig zag down the middle of the heart with a pencil. (this first one I started at the top so the bottom has a different look.) Use a sponge dauber to add highlights to the hearts edges with distress ink. Mount on paper and cut out again.

I love the symbolism of the wrapped hear. I find it so difficult to find comforting words to a person grieving.
