Feathering with Copic markers - NEW Penny Black stamps

Sending You Smiles
Hello Friends, I hope you had a lovely day yesterday & that your hearts were full of love.
This week Penny Black is showcasing the newly released 2012 stamps on the PB blog. As you look at both of these cards side by side you may notice all of the foliage & small flowers are missing on the simpler card on the left?? It was so easy to color, cut them out and cover them up for a speedy card. TodayI will also share with you a tip on "feathering" with your brush tip markers.
Sending You Smiles
This stamp called "Spring Beauty" is so lovely and fun to color. If coloring isn't your thing then my other card might just suit you. Tulips are my flower of choice for a simple easy arrangement on a table. I always marvel at all of the varieties of tulips available at your local nursery. Have you heard of "Candy Cane" tulips?? well...as you have guessed by now that was my inspiration when I was coloring these tulips. The white edging is an "Edgeabilities" from Spellbinders. In the supply list is the distress inks I used for the background.
Blank Card
Both backgrounds were stamped with this ink called "Cantaloupe" perfect for PB mix and match papers. The dew drop inks are big space savers.

I made some notes to share with you but, didn't mean to photograph them :) Have you noticed that you can over blend when coloring with reds...and it happens to dark blues as well. This was confirmed in the Copic certification class but, I don't remember the explanation...It has to do with the dies in the ink. Anyway... keep this in mind when coloring with red.
To begin I drew a line down the middle on each petal.
Start at the bottom of the petal and feather your tip with a LIGHT hand leaving space between each stroke. As you make each stroke feather your tip.
The pressure of how you place the tip of the marker on the paper .... I like to call it sweeping. ( When you sweep with a broom you push down your broom and as you being to sweep you lift the broom up.) This is the motion that works best with your marker. The effect you get when you sweep your marker is referred to by Copic as "Feathering" but, the motion is what give you the feathering look and makes it easier for your colors to blend together.
Flowers aren't perfect so don't judge yourself....It all comes together in the end.

This is a good shot of how I cut out the tulips leaves only. When you color them with dark greens you barely can make out the lines of the smaller flowers and leaves. Honestly you don't notice them at all when it's layered on your card.

Bring in a little bit of yellow carefully on the opposite side of the petals so you don't mix with the red.

Wrap your fresh flowers with some ribbon.
Did you see this post where I am giving away TWO gift certificates? Thanks for popping in today and have a great week. Hugs, Kathy

NEW Contest ...with two winners

IMG_5870
Hello Friends :) ... How was your weekend? Did you squeeze any stamping in?? I carved out some time to make these goodie bags for my stamp class. After I "teach" I always leave my class feeling so fulfilled and happy. I'm lucky to have such a wonderful group of women that truly make me feel very special. Thank you ladies :)

With that said it shouldn't be any surprise that I wanted to make "my students" a little something special for them to celebrate Valentines Day. The bad part is I purchased the candy in the beginning of the week so I had five days of staring at the chocolate & tasting the chocolate before I sealed the bags. Lesson learned... seal the bags immediately!

This lovely background stamp is one of Penny Black's newest 2012 stamps called "All Over Pattern". It's not available yet but,  I'll let you know when it will be available. I stamped onto this spellbinder die with this bright & beautiful ink. Glued down some scrap paper that I had cut from class cards.

Score the die right down the middle. I added some fabric ribbon on top of the green and wrapped the edges. The ribbon is similar to this. The cellophane bags are from Simon  Says Stamp too. To attach my homemade packaging I stapled it onto the bag right under the heart.

I finished off with my favorite Spellbinder hearts with this stamp called "Love Assortment" . Stickles were added to the leaves. Speaking of Penny Black if you leave a comment here by Tuesday you have the opportunity to win some of the NEW 2010 stamps!

HOW ABOUT SOME FUN?? IF YOU CAN GUESS THE CARDS THAT I CREATED IN THE NEW CATALOG here called "Full of Surprises" I WILL PICK TWO WINNERS TO WIN A $30.00 GIFT CERTIFICATE TO SIMON SAYS STAMP STORE. Yup that's TWO winners that will be selected at random to win a $25.00 to Simon Says Stamp Store.
Hint..... I have cards on 7 pages
All you have to do is list the page numbers that my cards are on in the comment area. Good luck and I will pick a winner at the end of the month. (For example page1, 3, 10 etc)

Penny Black's New London Collection

New London Collection
Hello Friends, How are you?? I feel like it has been forever since I have posted and if you are interested I will update you on the moving/packing at the end of my post. I also will announce the winner at the end.
This week Penny Back is featuring a new "London Collection".  I have always LOVE Richard Scary's books and I LOVE the olympics so you can image that I am loving this new series. I think it's both wrapped up in one.
New London Collection
Let's start with my simpler card today. When you stamp it off center there is less to color.  Also a second card is always faster even if you are coloring because you already have the color selection down. For both cards the red and blue is so bright with zero shading = fast!  I used these Tombow markers. The "sign" is leftover from my first card....got to love that.

New London Collection

I just love creating these fun scenes so much. The hills were created just like I did in this post. I must mention I shouldn't have used this sentiment set.... I don't know what I was thinking. It's new 2012 just released at CHA and won't ship for many weeks? I love all the sentiments and forgot NOT to use it. The flag is part of this particular transparent set and I am constantly reaching for it. I colored the critters with Copics.

New London Collection
The olympic torch I borrowed from a different stamp in the collection & they are listed below the post.
Before I forget..... the winner from my lost post is Bunnyfreak. Congrats!! I will be having more giveaways so stayed tuned :)

Now...only if you are interested read on :) We plan on moving May or June and before you know it we will be leaving our home with so many memories. I will never forget the kids running down the hall ..., the play dates, teacher parties, Thanksgivings, Christmas etc... etc. With that said I'm the "it girl" ...the girl that does 90% of the packing of all of the breakables, my precious dishes, collections and all that brick brack. So if you notice a lapse in posting I am probably packing. I tend to do it in spurts then I have to take a break. This past week I was removing furniture that I have accumulated in the past 16 years to the basement to make the rooms appear larger and less cluttered. So happy to have that part finished. We are looking forward to our next chapter and making new memories in a new home so it's all exciting and overwhelming at the same time. I don't know what I will do though when reality hits and I can't take Paula to my new neighborhood. (She's the dream neighbor that everyone wants)
Thanks so much for your sweet comments and good wishes. I might as well add that we have begun the college search and many more to check out this year for my DD. 2012 is a big year for us. I am so happy to have this blog and all of you that tips the balance the right way to keep me in check and stay "balanced" . So thanks to you for your visits... they really mean so much to me. Happy stamping and hugs, Kathy
