basic grey and studio photos

Hello Friends, How are you today?? Today I am sharing a sneak peek of four gift card holders for any occassion. I made all the embellishments and enjoyed every minute of it. You can check out the "how to" on The BasicGrey Blog today.

On another note....now that the holidays are behind me I am finally starting to get organized in the ole' studio. I thought I would share a few photos.
I had three of the Ikea drawer units built in, raised up and added a counter top. The lamps are from Crate & Barrel. The pin board will become a piece of art when I get time.
These "photo" shelves flank each side of the door and displays cards, photos etc. They are still in the works. Looking forward to sharing more soon. Thanks for your visit. Hugs, Kathy

more of simon says jan card kit

Hello Friends, How are you today?? Happy New Year!! I hope the beginning of your 2013 is off to a good start with some realistic resolutions perhaps?? I just keep a running list...lol so nothing new really.
Today I am bringing you my second post with Simon Says Stamp January Card Kit. There is still time for the January's card kit giveaway in this post.

One of the things I love about the card kits is the extras in the card kit that I wouldn't normally put into my shopping cart. For example, the wood grain paper or the Tim Holtz tickets. I wanted to highlight these goodies in today's feature. A while back I fell in love with these "Clever Owls" from Poppy Stamps and finally found the perfect paper to use with the owls...the woodgrain in the card kit :) Try distressing it...delicious!!
Meet Tim Holtz journaling tickets and the most beautiful wood grain paper.
Adding a heart to my owls with some of the exclusive hearts from Simon Says "Mini Hearts" and "Large Holiday Shapes" were the perfect variety of hearts to sprinkle and color on my cards. Super easy to cut several at one time.
The "Small Folded Banners" worked perfectly for my stamped sentiments. (Sentiments you can find here and see in the supply list at the end of my post) If you are admiring the scalloped edge on my card base ... it's a Labels 1 die cut from Spellbinders you can find it here ... (I use my Labels 1 more than any die cut.)
I added glossy accents to the eyes and applied rock candy distress stickles with a brush to the hearts after coloring them with some copic markers.
These babies are waiting for my next card but, I wanted to share the little extras I added to all of my owls. Incidentally the google eyes on the above owls I had in my stash but, I was happy to find them in the Simon Says stamp store here. Seriously... they always have what I need :)
Add some of this gorgeous distress ink starting at the top and lightly carrying the color down. I was going for an ombre look.
Add another color..in this case I added rusty hinge. Play around and have some fun.
What really makes the difference to to use a dark grey or black marker. You can use your chisel end. Pick up the body and outline the edge with the marker and repeat on the wings.
This is the last color combo I used.
Thank you for taking the time to visit and support my blog in 2012. I wish I could do a better job expressing how grateful I am. Please feel free if you would like to give me your feedback, suggestions and or if you would like to see something specific for me to try and create.
Thanks again!! Hugs, Kathy

giveaway - january card kit

Hello Friends, How are you?? Busy making returns??
I have some happy news ... today I have Simon Says Stamp's JANUARY CARD KIT to GIVEAWAY! Just leave any kinda comment and I will select a winner by Jan 10th.
What's not to love about this kit...even the name. The kit is titled "Thinking of you" and I always need sentiments with that theme. I think you will love the exclusive stamp set and I think you will love the awesome embossed wood grain paper I can't wait to create with.
This is a gift card set that was supposed to be for my mom for Christmas but, it's late. I ran out of time and have to add the sentiments and bundle them up and who knows what else. I will share the finished project in the new year. The hearts were cut out with this heart set from Simon Says and the "you" is a die cut too. Perfect size I might add :)
Enjoy you day and thanks for taking the time to stop at my blog. Hugs, Kathy

Hello Friends, Just a quick pop in today to share this card and announce some winners. The leaves on this die cut from Simon Says Stamp really pop with dimension. I "cut" the vines out twice and layered them on top of each other and bent the leaves up. I used a few different green markers and a white gel pen for some detail. Such a pretty wreath for any season :)
And ..... now we have some winners. Congrats ladies!!
The winner of Simons Says Stamps December Card Kit as seen in this post is Sandra.
The winner of the Star die cut as seen in this post is Maryann.

Please email your addresses to kathyrac@mac.com. I am waiting to hear from "Red Gem" for winning Furry Christmas. Thanks and best of luck as your make the final touches on your holiday and or gathering with friends and family. I really enjoyed reading your comments about ... if you were in the holiday spirit or not.... Thanks for taking the time to share with me and for your visit. Hugs, Kathy
