giveaway - june card kit

Hello Friends, How are you today? Hopefully your day will be a little brighter because I have the NEW & exciting Simon Says Stamp JUNE 2013 card kit to GIVEAWAY to one of you!

If I had a crystal ball I would guess that this kit will sell out fast. I know first hand that Simon works really hard at making enough kits to meet demand and believe it or not... their goal is NOT to sell out. Yup... they like to have extra card kits on hand. Nothing worse when you want something and you can't get it right? That becomes frustrating for you and for Simon. Unfortunately, it's hard to predict how many kits will sell & sometimes they don't get the numbers right. So that's it in a nutshell but, I thought it was important for you to know that in case you ordered a Kelly Purkey kit or one of the Simon kits and they were sold out.

HOW TO WIN THIS JUNE CARD KIT? JUST LEAVE ME A COMMENT ON THIS POST AND I WILL RANDOMLY SELECT A WINNER JUNE 1st.
(if you have ordered the kit you will be refunded the amount of the card kit)Please mark your calendar to check back. If you don't have a blog leave me your email... thanks :)
In my last post I created two Father's Days cards with the June kit. It's no surprise that everything is still out on my desk... LUCKY ME.... so it was easy to throw together tonight's card. The Penny Black owl called "Very Wise" was sitting on my desk ... so on it went.
I thought I would show you the difference a few dots and some Enamel Accents makes. I always end up making the pupil of the eyes larger because I think it brings the images to life. Here is a post I did on eyes. See the "before"owl on the right and the "after" on the left.
I ended up using Glossy Accents on the graduation hat to resemble that shiny fabric all hats are made from. I always clip the fur on my critters and I noticed in this large photo I missed a spot on the left of the eye! ... it's driving me nuts lol.
I wanted to use this die cut house more as a symbolic house ..... leaving the nest sort of thing. When I popped the house I purposely left it askew for a shadow effect.  I flipped over this cool wooden banner and used these letters to create my message. I can't believe the letters fit so perfectly. Love it when things work out so seamlessly. Thanks for popping in today I so appreciate it. Have a great weekend! Hugs, Kathy

fathers day - june card kit

Hello Friends, How was your weekend? I hope it was full of sunshine :)
Today Simon Says Stamp is debuting their NEW June Card Kit 2013. I think you will love it as much as I do.
Like I always say.... the value is incredible and I only say it because it's the truth. I had so much fun creating paper with the stamp set in the kit for my two Father's Day Cards.
The Hero Arts Charcoal ink was the perfect masculine color to stamp my background with and on trend too. I created a window with this die cut that's incredibly versatile. Here is another card I created with that same die.
I used some 40lb vellum over the die so the "window" would stand out more in a way.
I distressed with with Gathered Twigs after stamping on the paper from BasicGrey called Hipster.
Just a snap shot of the vellum and the paper I created with this stamp set in the kit BEFORE I distressed it.
The wood tags really popped when I added distress ink to them as well. Easy and fun!
I stuck the sticker letters to the card stock in the card kit. Cut them out and added Glossy Accents. I used a this tool to hold them down while adding the glossy accents.
The second card is for my awesome step dad... better known as a "bonus dad". I wish you could see how the letters pop with the glossy accents but, I am sure you can visualize. Thanks so much for your visit and hope to see you soon. Hugs, Kathy

look who's dishin'

Hello Friends, Happy Mother's Day to you. I like the way Wikipedia described Mother's Day. "Mother's Day is a celebration honoring mothers and motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society"

I hope you are being honored in some way today even if you are a 'Mother' or not :) I am blessed to have my mom live close to us and my bonus mom too. Today I will do my best to show them how special they are. You can bet I will be in the kitchen trying to whip up something special. It might be my one of my staple salads below. For a few years I have been wanting to start a cooking blog to organize and share my recipes and finally the blog is up and running. It's called Kathy Dishes. Since I don't have a card today I thought it would be fun to share what I'm dishin' about. Wishing you a wonderful, magical and perhaps a crafty day. Hugs, Kathy

when in doubt take the vellum out & we have a winner

Hello Friends, How are you? Today I am sharing a fun vellum tip and the winner of the Penny Black Giveaway. My May 2013 Card Kit from Simon Says Stamp was still out on my craft table therefore, it was easy to design a quick card with the beautiful papers & vellum from the card kit. Penny Black has really been rocking their stamps and it's not an exaggeration when I say that I need them all. This sweet yet whimsical stamp called "Mona Lisa" is so unique and fun!
I used a "Project Life" type die cut called, "Life Bubble Vertical" to use on my card instead of a scrap album. I love the outline die cut that frames the Life Bubble. (check out the vertical bubble here & here) the sentiment words are from this die cut. The background paper was very busy so I put a 40lb piece of vellum on top of the busy paper and instantly it gave my card a soft elegant look. I decided so sew the vellum down and this is the fun part..... I tucked the "Oh Happy" down behind the vellum so that only the one word would stand out. (if I was a planner then I wouldn't be tucking the words behind the vellum...I would just be glueing them under the vellum..lol) Vellum really adds so much to a card especially if it's the right weight. I colored Mona Lisa with Copics and added a big blob of Enamel Accents on her necklace.
I must give you an update on Brian Mitchell. Many of you were so kind to view his video and leave great comments and personal experiences relating to his video on Brian's U-Tube channel! Thank YOU!! Well..... Brian won 1st place at the Maryland state competition & is moving on to nationals. Thank you all for your support it meant so much to Brian!(Brian is that handsome guy on the right)

AND LAST BUT, NOT LEAST...WE HAVE A WINNER FOR THIS PENNY BLACK GIVEAWAY. A BIG CONGRATS TO LAURA JANE. Thank you for your visit today it's always so appreciated. Hugs, Kathy
