pieces of me for my pin board

Hello Friends, How are you today? Today I am excited to share a little part of my studio and some....what I call little pieces of me.
Every time I stamp an image for a card I will also take a minute to stamp the same image on one of these butterfly die cuts from Simon Says Stamp. You will see why below the butterflies.
Each butterfly in today's post is from this stamp set from Penny Black. I was tickled pink and blue to finally get some time to sit down and color with my markers.
You will be surprised how a stamp can give you a new look when you don't see the full image.
This area is behind my desk and it's all spruced up for you. Mind you the pin board is "in progress" Soon it will be entirely filled from edge to edge with white blank butterflies.

(The "create" fabric letters are from Anthropologie & the pin board is from Restoration Hardware.)
Hopefully by this time next year my pin board will be complete with little pieces of me. In this photo you can see I have begun this fun project. Do you have any fun projects planned for the new year?
Let me know and I will announce a random winner for a goodie bag on Jan 19th. Thanks for your visit today. Hugs, Kathy

what a cool idea, Kathy! I'm doing a smash book for the first time, just a "year of me" kind of thing. What I'm reading, watching, liking, etc.

Your desk is so bright and clean - love it, Kathy! And what a fun idea for your pin board! You're so right - a stamp can look completely different when partially used on a die-cut. Gorgeous coloring on your butterflies!

I'm hoping to get more into Art Journaling this year!

What a lovely idea! Very inspiring!
Please update us on your progress a few times during the year - not just a final reveal. ;-)

This is so cool!!!! I need to get to work on my art journal. I have everything to get started, but I think I'm in a little bit of a panic about doing it!

WAUW this is so cool Kathy. I love butterflies and this is really an amazing idea to decorate them like this. Can´t wait to see, what this board will look like, when it´s finished.
We´ve planned to make a small city with all my granddaughters through the year, and then we´ve planned to decorate it as Santas village for christmas next year, when we´ve hopefully found enough different houses to call it a city ha ha ha. The girls really look forward to this project, that we´ll be together around all year.

What a cool idea for a fun project Kathy! My running project this year is to scrap my Alaskan cruise my husband and I took last August. I want to finish it before the anniversary date of the trip!!

Oh my gosh, this is such a cute idea! Can't wait to see what it looks like all stamped and colored! I have no fun projects going right now, but with a 7-week old baby, I'm lucky to have 5 minutes to myself! :)

Love your pin board idea, Kathy. And, your fabric create letters. I have started a "CREATE" project for my craft room, will post to my blog when complete. TY for the chance to win some stamping goodies :)

What a cool idea Kathy! It would be so nice to look at it when you have filled it all up! Great as an inspiration board!

Wonderful idea! It will be interesting to see how different styles of stamps play out on the butterflies. My craft project this year is to make 5 Christmas cards of the same basic style each month. I am hoping this gives me more time to research and plan each style of card, making them more special than in years past when I have massed produced or been in a mad rush to make different cards at the end of the year.

i do not have a fun project for this year but I love yours!

What a cute idea! You are so creative. I just love hanging around with you on your blog whenever you post! :-) I don't really have any special projects planned but would love to start making some handmade books...

I love your butterfly idea Kathy, it will look amazing when you are done.
This year I hope to do more mixed media and art work (when I can find some time)

Awesome idea Kathy. Love your pinboard. My best friend turns 40 in December. I want to make her a handmade album with beautiful pictures of her throughout the years. Maybe a page per month. I've never made a layout before. I've never made an album either. Here's to trying new things. If that fails I have a backup plan. I will give her a pinboard with "little pieces of me" (I will be starting one as soon as I get me a pretty pinboard - such a great idea)

I can't wait to see what your butterfly board looks like in the end. Hmm...new projects...I'm hoping to work on my stash of cards to have ready and I'm hoping to actually send cards for all the birthdays all around me. That's a big goal! :) I'm almost scared to even try! It has been a goal of mine for years. Thanks for sharing! I always enjoy other's work spaces.

Those are fabulous! Given how much you seem to do in a year, I'd think you'd need 2 or 3 (or 5!) of these boards! :) I want to try to make a few seasonal shadow boxes, similar to this but not nearly as glamorous! :) Some black bats and a few printed ones for Halloween, butterflies for spring, etc.

What a great project! It was so nice to kind of meet you over the weekend! I don't think we got an actual introduction, hopefully next year!

Kathy, how brilliant is that board. I totally love butterflies, always colouring for projects. Can I borrow that idea and do the same. I think it would look absolutely brilliant, great way to show how the stamps look and to try different colour combos etc and be able to refer back to. Just brilliant. Could also make an eye catching end result worth framing.

Wow Kathy!! this is one of a kind pinboard!!! I just loved the idea soooooo much...I am restless to try it myself!! for now I have started on Project Life ..its taking a lot of my time..not 'the taking pictures' part but 'the scraping them part'!!
Thank you for sharing this sweets!

What an incredible idea. I can not wait to see it complete. This year as part of my decision to PLAY more, I am going to try some art journalling. I love to stamp and colour and draw and play with products so I thought I could Play and make a creative play place just for me in a journal of some sort!
I adore hearts and butterflies so may have to apply some of my techniques I learn to your idea together with some colouring and stamping. Oh how fun :) Thanks for sharing.

What a cool idea Kathy! I love the idea and can't wait to see more. One project I'm hoping to take on this year is to make some awesome tags to display my ink colors and to create a master stamped list by category of all my stamps. Of course I want to create this in a fun design so that it becomes a work of art itself. Thanks for all your inspiration.

Love your pin board idea! I'm into burlap panels, canvas shapes, distressing/revamping objects, and the usual cards, and it's only January!!

For the last several years, while our son has been in college, I've had the "project" of making him cards--different sizes, OR ATC's EVERY WEEK! As little notes of "I love you!" & encouragement! NOW, our daughter is off to college too & my "project" hasn't changed! I don't think there's anything better as a mom or a crafter, than to hear our kids say, "Mom, I haven't gotten my card...!" LOL IT MATTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

TLady said...

OOOOOps! I forgot to mention, Your BUTTERFLIES are BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!:) WHAT A FABULOUS IDEA!!!!!!!:) (My daughter would LOOOOOOOOOVE one of those Butterflies on her dorm wall!!!!!!!!!:) ) Looks like SOMETHING ELSE, I can make her!!!!!!!!!!;)

What an incredible idea! You are a genius! I can not wait to see what this looks like at the end of the year! Something new I'm doing this year craft related is to "go with confidence" meaning I am going to be confident in my abilities and my crafting and try new things and not be discourage when I fail to make a DT or win a challenge... thanks so much!

Your design board is a fabulous idea and it will definitely be a wonderful reference to your beautiful projects for the year, Kathy!

The only project I have in mind is to get more organized, which isn't fun, per se; but it will be fun to have a place for everything and everything in its place!

Thanks for your inspiration throughout the year and for the chance to win a goodie bag.

Love your pin board! Believe it or not, I've been planning a project, for this year, similar to yours, to bring some color and personality (mine!) into my work space. the general gist of my plan is to fill a shadow box with a collage of different butterflies. Your little pieces of me has solved my color scheme issue. Now, I just need a few more supplies and I can start! It's going to be so much fun! Thank you for helping me with the final puzzle piece!

Wow Kathy, your board is so fabulous, it's inspiring and so creative. Makes for a beautiful art piece. This year I plan to do some scrapbooking and have more fun creating!!!

I keep track of things that happen each month on a calendar and then transfer it to a journal with pictures and notes. I love looking back through them.

What a fantastic idea...I love it!!!
I don't have any specific projects planned but I hope to have more time to craft and create. I would love to learn to color better with my Copics and be more casual or freer with my art journal.

So very pretty (well it will be!) and a cool idea! I have something similar going on in my room. One wall has a 4' x 5' cork bulletin board that I'm pinning all of the cards I receive (handmade mostly) during the year. Plus I put little pieces I create as well. These are like your butterflies but are of various shapes. It's fun and gives me something to do just for me!!!

This is an amazing idea! How wonderful it will be at the end of the year .. and all year long to watch those white butterflies morph into beautiful bursts of color. My plan for the year .. a gratitude jar ..count one blessing per day ... write it down, put it in the jar .. count my blessings at year's end or all year long. Sarah Moerman's idea!

Tam said...

OMG don't have anything like that planned but wish I had your creativity then maybe I could. I absolutely love to come to your page when you have something new. I am always in awe. Thanks for sharing.

Aww Kathy! Love butterflies, and love your project! Love what you've done so far! My project for this year is to work in my Gratitude journal, I always say I'm very blessed but I decided to record every blessing this year. TFS

Oh I love it! What an inspiration this is! My little wheels are going round and round with ideas to do something similar. Using a butterfly die is perfect as I'm very much into gardening and attracting real ones to my yard.
Thanks so much!

This is very 'you' indeed & I love the idea of a pin board where you can pin little bits of your own art. So - my plans for this year: work on my journal which I've already started & will be posting about soon; start working on some Quilling & work through as many of the Official Zentangle Patterns as I can…….. somewhere in the midst I hope the house will be sold & we'll move into rented accommodation whilst looking for our own little terraced house in the city of Exeter. I think that's enough to be going on with.

Hi Kathy, I love your butterfly board. I will look forward to seeing it when I come to your home next time. As you color them, it will be as if they are coming out of their white cocoon. Just sayin'. Rachel

What a great project, Kathy! I'm working on doing something similar with a butterfly die cut, but no big project like this. You're always inspiring!

What an AMAZING idea!!! I'm So inspired by this! A non-crafty project this year is to play more of the games I have more often so I joined #10x10in2014 and I will be playing 10 games 10 times this year. :) A craftier goal is to finally complete all 14 online classes that I currently have "in progress"!

karenelr said...

How cool is that! I love that idea with the butterflies! My big desire this year is to put together my children's books--scrapbooks and school memorabilia books. Here's hoping!

Hi Kathy, what a neat idea! I love your 'pieces of me' project and it will be so fun to see it filled up with pattern and color at the end to the year. Hopefully you will share it with us then. As far as what I would like to work on is using my inks and color mediums, and my tim holtz products too (I have been ignoring them for some reason). I hope to participate in some different challenges this year, they really get me going. Thanks for sharing.

Marisela Delgado said: Hi, Kathy! OMG! I LOVE that butterfly project that you have going. That is so beautiful. I can't wait to see it at the end of the year! The only new project that I have planned for this year is to get my life back. I injured my leg--cut a varicose vein while shaving, it ruptured, big wound, infected 2X,ER,bed rest caused blood clot, healing nicely, finally back to my running). I am hoping to go back to work, stay on my running game, and do some wonderful stamping in my spare time. You always inspire me! Keep us posted on the butterfly project. I just might copy you. What a brilliant idea, I can't wait to see this pin board in a years time. And the image do certainly look totally different with only part showing.

I love those butterflies..you could cut out anything and do the same....very creative!! I have had to put all plans on haul tags my two 16 year old twins were hit and killed by...you guessed it a drunk driver. I never knew how much 2 plots and caskets and flowers and stuff I didn't even think about. So...not much money left to do anything....hopefully that will change and I can walk back in my craft room and not have anxiety. I appreciate your talent so much! I want to. Buy stamps and copics and a few little things but whoa...even the smallest copies are so very much anyway hopefully this dark hazy fog will go away and I can think clearly and learn from all of the things you teach. I just wanna know how you all afford copies??? Wink wink. Thanks again...gabbylou@live.com

Hi, I missed this post originally so wasn't quite what this was all about but as they say in the song 'now I understand'. The more of these little stamped butterflies I see the more I love this idea. What a great way to get ideas and remember colour schemes. May have to think about this a bit more. Not sure I'm organised enough but a start is a start..... Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to seeing this develop
